Dr. Wolfgang Brandstetter, born on 7 October 1957 in Haag; school attendance in Horn; graduation from Horn Grammar School; studies of law at the University of Vienna, 1980 doctoral degree in law; scientific assistant at the Institute of Criminal Law and Criminology of the University of Vienna; 1991 post-doctoral degree (Habilitation) at the University of Vienna; 1997 University of Linz; 1998 to 2007 Professor of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedural Law at the Institute of Criminal Law and Criminology of the University of Vienna; teaching assignments at the Universities of Graz, Brno and Cracow; since February 2007 Professor of Austrian and European Criminal Business Law at the Institute of Austrian and European Criminal Business Law of the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration (Head of Institute from 2007 to 2013); 1993 to 2013 and from 2018 on practicing criminal defense lawyer specializing in cases of negligence and criminal business law; December 2013 to December 2017 Federal Minister of Justice; May to December 2017 Vice-Chancellor of the Republic of Austria.
Member of the Constitutional Court from 27 February 2018 until 7 June 2021; elected Judge-Rapporteur; nominated as Constitutional Court judge by the Federal Government.
